A Perfect Ending By Gilda Radner

The poem 'A Perfect Ending, has been written by Gilda herself, a comedienne who had worst struggle with ovarian cancer. Perhaps the same pain is emitted in the poem. Here, she tries to unfold the mystery of the criss-cross route of life. She says that there are stories which don't have specific beginning or ending, still they are called stories. Then, there are poems that do not rhyme, but still constitute poetry. Same is the fate of life, where nothing is perfect. She says that uncertainty and ambiguities are a part and parcel of life and one has to live with them. In her short life span, Gilda Radner experienced great many things; this inspirational poem is a representative of her deep thinking.

A Perfect Ending

I wanted a perfect ending...

Now, I've learned the hard way that some poems

Don't rhyme, and some stories

Don't have a clear beginning, middle and end.

Life is about not knowing,

Having to change, taking the moment

And making the best of it,

Without knowing what's going to happen next.

Delicious ambiguity!
