The poem 'Anything Can Happen' tells us about the uncertainty, rather possibility, of any and every thing taking place in our life. The poet, Shel Silverstein believes in the maxim 'never say never and always avoid always.' The poem shows a lot about the practical aspect of life. Written in slang language, it is especially a hit among kids. Shel developed his own style of writing and never copied anyone. He was an inspirational figure himself and the poem is representative of the ideas he stood for. Being a practical person, he did not believe in extremity. He knew that there are two ways to slide easily through life - first don't believe in everything and don't doubt everything, because we never know anything can happen. He followed the first way and his inspirational poem also motivates people to do the same.
Anything Can Happen
Listen to the Mustn'ts, child,
Listen to the Don'ts
Listen to the Shouldn'ts
The Impossibles, the Won'ts
Listen to the Never Haves,
Then listen close to me --
Anything can happen, child,
Anything can be.
