Christmas poem 'Candles Are a Gift of Light' by Nicholas Gordon describes the celebration of Christmas, in which various lightings are used for dazzling. The poet equates candle lights with stars as well as with particle form of sun. According to him, these lights are a reflection of our inner self us, which is pure and trustworthy. The poet further says that we, mortal humans, become enlightened with joy and happiness that surrounds the celebration of the birth of Lord Jesus.

Candles are a gift of light,
A tiny sun, a bit of star.
No other dancer in the night
Dances with such sheer delight,
Little souls serene and bright,
Each a glimpse of what we are
Shining innocent and pure.
