The poem 'Not Forgotten' is an illustration of the unchanging love of the poet (Rachel Meaden), for her grandmother. Though, the latter is no more in existence, she remains in the heart of the poet. Rachel promises that her grandmother would always be remembered by her. The poem also describes the natural progression of a girl into a mother and then, into a grandmother. Life changes and so do the relationships. A girl becomes a wife and a mother thereafter. Motherhood is followed by the step towards being a grandmother. A girl's fits herself in various roles and through the transition, matures and gains wisdom. She becomes an idol of love and affection when she reaches the last stage of being a woman, i.e. grandmother.
Silent Love
The note sounds
Hangs in the air,
And then diminishes
The stone drops
Ripples the water
And is lost in the deep
In the same way
A life is formed
A hopeful child
And two proud parents
The child grows
A women is shown
With a compassionate soul
And a thirst for life
The women becomes
A mother herself
And in time
A wonderful grandmother
Then the women is caught
In cancer's cruel grasp
And is lost
Like the stone sinking to the bottom
Unlike the stone however
She is remembered
Her note will sound clearly
And her ripples shall be seen
She is my grandmother
Whom I still love dearly
And I want her to know
She will always be remembered
