The poem 'Our Death Is Our Wedding'has been adopted from Rumi's collection, named 'Mystic Odes.' A Persian poet, Islamic jurist and theologian by profession, Rumi said that the longing and desire of a human's soul, to unite with the Almighty, is an age-old attempt. In this poem, he emphasizes that death is like a wedding with eternity, wherein there would not be any cycle of birth and death to torment the soul and it would rest in peace. Rumi advises people not to grieve on death of a beloved, as, according to him, the person has gone to eternity, where anything done on earth would not matter. All obituary and defamatory statements would not cause any repulsion in him, as the person has reached a place which is far beyond the materialistic world in which we live.
Our Death Is Our Wedding
Our death is our wedding with eternity.
What is the secret? "God is One."
The sunlight splits when entering the windows of the house.
This multiplicity exists in the cluster of grapes;
It is not in the juice made from the grapes.
For he who is living in the Light of God,
The death of the carnal soul is a blessing.
Regarding him, say neither bad nor good,
For he is gone beyond the good and the bad.
For he is gone beyond the good and the bad.
